Iceland | Days 5 & 6
After four days of go, go, go, and hiking, and waterfalls, and being rained on, and sitting in a car... we were ready to finally do some relaxing in the Blue Lagoon and eat our way through Reykjavik!
//Day 5: Blue Lagoon, Hello to Reykjavik, and so. much. food.
Is the Blue Lagoon super touristy? Yes. Is it totally worth it to go anyways? HELL YES. The second we stripped down to our bathing suits, put that plush robe and slippers on, and strolled out of the locker rooms, my entire body relaxed. And then we actually got in the water. Oh. my. gosh.
We did the silica and algae masks that they provide, got drinks at the swim up bar, and found a quiet spot at the back of the lagoon to sit and soak and talk about all the amazing things we've done so far on this trip.
After about 3 hours of soaking (yes, 3 hours...it was glorious), we got back in our robes and went to the Lava Restaurant for our free Prosecco and a small lunch. Our view was perfect, and as we sat in our robes being served a 5-star service meal, we laughed at how spoiled we felt, being just simple public school teachers from the USA.
My mouth still waters thinking of that Halibut. And the cream puff donuts with creme brulee ice cream...ugh. Definitely spoiled.
We slowly made our way back to the locker rooms to get cleaned up. I took full advantage of the Lagoon's special shampoo, conditioner, lotion, robes, etc...I am a sucker for spa amenities, and there is no shortage of amenities at the Blue Lagoon.
We said goodbye to that serene view and made our way to Reykjavik. Until next time, Blue Lagoon!
First stop was the Harpa Concert Hall, with gorgeous views of the city, bay, and mountains.
A quick stop for DELICIOUS seafood...lobster bisque, salmon skewer, and whale steak. Yup. WHALE.
Whiskey tasting at Eimverk Distillery, Hot Dogs (again of course) at the world famous Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur, and ice cream while it's snowing out (because why not?!)...
Our AirBnb was a cute little cottage in the backyard of a home in downtown Reykjavik. We had the whole place to ourselves, a nice little kitchenette, bathroom, and comfy bed. The kitchen cabinets were painted to be a chalkboard where guests wrote messages, and Joe wrote this while I got ready in the morning for our last few hours in Iceland. It made me smile when I saw it :)
//Day 6: Sight-seeing and saying goodbye to the land of fire and ice
The first stop of the morning was Sandholt Bakery, for some deliciously yummy lattes and pastries. Sorry, but we devoured the pastries before taking a picture.
Hallgrímskirkja: with its impressive architectural symmetry and views from the top...
After going to the top of the cathedral and soaking in those views, we walked through the church as the organist was practicing. I stopped and knelt in their chapel space to give thanks to God for blessing me with the resources to travel and see his incredible creations on earth.
After the Cathedral, we walked along the water front and stopped at the Sun Voyager statue for some touristy photos :)
By this time, it was 11am, which meant the flea market was open. The flea market is obviously the prime location to eat fermented shark, which is exactly what we did! It actually wasn't that bad! Although Joe's face says otherwise...hahaha. It's actually more of a "I'm still trying to decide if I like this or am just okay with this..." type of face. Since we didn't mind the taste at all, Joe bought some more to bring home with us! It is currently sitting in the freezer, and I occasionally get a whiff of it when I open the door. It tastes much better than it smells, FYI.
One more hot dog at the flea market (which actually wasn't that good), and then to a crepe and ice cream shop for a delicious final Iceland treat...
Off to return the rental car, get through security at the airport, buy a few last minute gifts in duty free, and enjoy a mimosa before the long flight back home...
My handsome travel buddy ;)
I cannot even begin to describe how much we completely fell in love with Iceland. There is so much more in this world that I want to see and explore, but I would be perfectly okay if God said "Nope, you can only ever return to Iceland again."
To Joe: Thank you for being an amazing travel partner. I never doubted for a second that we would have an amazing time, but I walked away from our trip feeling more content and secure in who I chose to experience life with. Your patience, excitement, and adventurous spirit helped make this the trip of a lifetime. I am so blessed to have you and our memories. Love you!
Thanks for following us on our trip! :)

Jaclyn
